If anyone saw Newsnight review last night, purists are up in arms that they have ditched the greek Gods from Troy.

I can't say I've seen much on Alexander, to be honest. It could be good, and Oliver Stone's a top director, but I can't really tell from the 3 photos on the official site. Troy, according to the reviews, is meant to be great though, so I'll lump for that at the mo, because the trailer looks pretty.

call me negative but i honestly think they will all be pretty damn awful, I actually dont mind brad pitt - fight club, 7 and interview with the vampire were all pretty good but he looked a complete gimp in his greek hero outfit.  To be honest I really think hollywood is gonna do its usual bandwagon trick and the historical/mythological movie craze is gonna dissapear up its own backside again.  Which is a shame cos it means a lot of damn good films will never be made.  Not that I am a bit cynical

Alexander look to be the choice for serious history - its supposed to revel in the buggery so I doubt its going to be glossy

I don't know of anyone else out there has heard of it, but there's a film called Ancanar being made by a group of LOTR fans from virtually nothing. They started some 4 years ago with $20,000 and managed to produce a trailer and a sketchy version of the film, which got them yet more money. So basically, it's a load of geeks running round making up a story that's a bit LOTR-ish and trying to beat Peter Jackson at his own game. The effects in it look very nice, but the actual film footage looks a bit cheesy still. But hey, go judge for yourselves.

I still want to make Diagnosis: Mordor with Dick van Dyke as Gandalf.

Has anyone noticed that the classic Greek image seems to be fair haired and muscular, where as all the Greeks I have met have been short, dark skinned and dark haired? (male and female) I lived with about 2000 of them in Hull.

I do think Brad Pitt has that classic look though

Maybe its a subconcious inferiority complex?  Nah its more likely something to do with the Turkish invasions of Europe in the middle ages that darkened down the gene pool of lots of medditeranian types perhaps?  On the other hand I wonder what the Nealithic builders looked like (you know stonehenge et al) as they had an incredibly widespread society so it would be interesting to see which places in the world still have strong elements of them in their genetics.

The Ridley Scott one should be good - after all, he's the one that started this trend off with Gladiator - so long as he doesn't get too self-indulgent. Beowulf will be good if they stick to the story, which hopefully they will. After all, it's been around some 1500 years or so, so it must be doing something right. The jews fighting the Romans should be directed by Mel Gibson and have Jesus leading from the front. I'll be fed up of realism by the time it get's here anyway, so seeing Jesus kick ass (possibly with added holy flamethrower, for the Fires of Hell touch) would be entertaining. Bruce Campbell as Jesus, too.
I've a feeling the Boudicca one's will end up being feminist shite, but perhaps I'm just being cynical.

What's the title of this Jewish warrior meets Gozilla an Bambi flick? I reckon it'll be a gas! "he rebbellion in 66AD was pretty brutal so should produce a good battle flick. I give it a genocidotastic 5 Gold Stars. Although the chances of it being any good if actually directed my Mel Gibson would be about 6 million to 1...
