Just thought for a bit of light reliefe, what are the most useless items in various catergories of life and lrp?

How about larp weapons?  Which ones do you think are truly and deeply crap and boring?

Tiny daggers in a fight between archers is about as useful as a 2 handed sword in a lift.

Axes, especially those magical gliding axes that lack the weight to move in a straight line, you know the ones. Oh they all look really pretty but as soon as you swing it, it gets a mind or its own and aims straight for some ones glasses, boobs, nads etc. Worse still with the blessed axe is the fact you can be really, really cool looking latex ones that will hook onto some persons weapon and get torn a sunder. Yes, axes are the work of a lower power, designed just to get up my nose. I am on to you axes, you cant hide from me now, I know where you live…

I kinda like tiny daggers - then again I like big daggers, boot knives, butterfly knives, misericords - well pretty much daggers full stop.  Kinda glad people replied though - otherwise I was gonna nominate this thread as the most useless thread - as it is I nominate the fantasy bar brawls as no one bothered with it! :P

speaking of axes, throwing axes bug me, they dont fly properly and if you are lucky enough to get a hit with them the reciver gets a nasty blow. Infact most throwib weapos either look entirey rubbish and do nothing but at least they dont come really sharp, or the super looking ones that are spectacular to look at, throw reasonably well, but allways seem to slap you in the face on ass, leaving a red mark all weekend. Maybe im just bitter because i cant throw!

Ive got to say muskets are the most useless and yes i do have a theory.

Muskets were a ranged weapon, however sadly, due to the way LARP works and everyone is a cheating shite, its nigh-on impossible to judge whether you hit someone within line of sight. I mean, even if you did aim directly at someone who is 300 yards away, maybe, just maybe you could pick the apple off his head, but lets look at the downsides and critical variables. The wind: The wind can blow in all manner of directions that are available in our 3-dimensional world. Elevation: What you really need to ask is that if you aim directly at the person, would a small ball of metal hit someone 300 yards away or would it more likely dig into the ground a good 100-200 infront of you?

Also, you need to take into account the fact that muskets are shite and are accurate to about 50 feet, after which you have sod all chance anyway.

So lets just say that muskets are crap for a LARP environment, unless they are used as props, or unless you use them in a situation where a firing squad is used (I know at least 3 people who have been in a firing squad) or where someones brains are blown out (My film group that has a near-zero budget once did a scene where we blew someones brains out from zero range, they were trendy and we chased them in a landrover)

dont diss muskets they rock its just some people get carried away with them but if its roleplayed well then its not too bad i can understand that even the best mastercrafted musket may missfire on the occasion and that if you are stood 300 to about 30 yards away you will probably miss but it still doesnt mean you shouldnt take a shot.

remembering hits from pistols to muskets are always at gm's discretion and i do not complain when a missfire is called

also i think the most pointless weapons small one handed axes or hammers they generally pointless if you cant get close

See I was right about those darn axes, blooming things. Should be left for cutting down trees like they are meant to be used.

Well...More they are a weapon I really like the idea of but they don't work in a LARP setting. Generally they either glade or hook or sometimes you can be lucky to have one that does both.

The fail I had to use whilst monstering on a chris adventure probably counts as pretty useless - seeing as he hadnt bothered to secure the head on it even a little bit - oddly enough the monsters kept dying whilst refraining from hitting players with what could rapidly become an unpadded bit of bamboo on a string
