Thoughts For The Future
« on: January 18, 2005, 03:15:19 PM »
I am beginning to think over plans for where we will be going next.

I have a lot of land now - compared to before - but we still need to think of how we are going to design the area for new roleplays. I wish to stick with Illyria and I am swinging towards still being on Alabarak with the old idea of the WHite Wolf being a roadside Inn with few or no other buildings in the immediate vicinity. If I am not careful it would be easy to fill half the land with a small village and waste space. I may look to buy adjoining land at a later date.

Thus ideas I am thinking of at the moment:

A return to Derarkshire - colonists rebuild the WHite Wolf (think of the readymade history)

A group of colonists - set up a community on a small local island - The isle of the Wight (or some such)

A new roadside tavern elsewhere designed to coincide with additional plot (erewakian, Glentonian or whatever)

However other ideas welcomed:

Please post with details.

We may be able to communicate and design characters well long before we meet for LRPs.

I like the idea of tempory buildings - Celtic huts made of peat blocks that can fall apart as nature intends, creating an abandonded village.

I did mention to you building a barrow  - or an underground tomb could have something built on top?

Missed the point again mate !!

Top tip - when reading please read the words used and do not substitute for any that you randomly feel like.

To reitterate what I actually meant was what would people like to play in character. The buildings will be made solid (generally) - though a few crap lean-tos that could be burnt in orc raids etc - might be quite exciting.

What in character area would we like to play in?

Some thoughts:

I've always enjoyed White Wolf based events, and though I don't want to in any way detract from other things that've been done, I've always thought that the white wolf was where a lot of the best roleplay and story lines got laid down.
I could however be living in the past a little. A lot of the characters from the White Wolf are now dead or scattered, which leads on to my next point.
Rich and interesting as the history of Derrarkshire is, if we'd be bringing a lot of new characters into the area (and I am strictly discussing characters rather than players here) then wouldn't the massive history of Derrarkshire somewhat get in the way? What I mean is, things have escalated to such an extent in Derrarkshire that a character who doesn't understand the history of the bloodkin, Gethron, the Inquisition, the True Faith, Mistress Agnes etc would be likely to either die through ignorance, or spend their time mightily confused. Moreover, characters would never have the same levels of identification acheived by those who are dealing with plot that they've help to generate. You could of course draw on the history of Derrarkshire in such a way as to make plot very easy to come accross/come up with since the characters are surrounded by other people's loose ends!
Finally I'd like to note that at this historical juncture, it would make very good sense for the government of Alabarak to attempt to recolonise Derrarkshire after its recent 'taming'. After all, the other counties and fifes are soon going to start getting unctuous and frustrated with the burden that Derrarkshire refugees are placing on their economies.

Thats my two cents.

Hey chris, glad to see you active on here again!  On the subject of your future roleplay prospects - I kinda really like the idea of Derakshire again - but I would like to chat to you about what its gonna be like there now. I'm not trying to claim it as my baby but after the conclusion of Gethrons son plot its gonna be quite different from how people remember it I believe and I think we could come up with some evil plots.

Alex - your comments about the massive history are sound but on the other hand - its a massive history which players have helped build over years - what a rich setting for more roleplay?  As for there being too many bad guys or whatever - As I mentioned above the area has changed since it was used for regular roleplay who knows what still remains of the old (dis)order?

Chris, out of interest any idea how deep your lake is? I'm thinking how good it would be to have sea monsters coming out of it, it its 7 feet or less I have no objection to diving in. (or falling in, in the dark.)

Ummm... hate to be the one with the quibble, but isn't the dfference between 7 feet and 15ft basically academic as you wouldn't be able to stand up in either depth? Unless you had really big shoes.

How old were you when you weighed six stone?

Believe it or not, 16. Now I'm 8 stone and I'm 26!

I'm too tall for a halfling but weigh less?

Just a question, how does the correlation work between how safe you feel in water of varying depth vs your weight?

I imagine the water pressure of a reasonably deep bath can be felt when you are six stone - by the way raisde - put on some frigging weight! :o

I'm known as the Gannet, I eat like mad, (15 plates of Chinese once) but it makes no difference I'm just mean to be little. We have a 15 year old actor in our group who is actually the only actor who can double as me!
