Carpe Fatum (from the latin - seize fate or seize destiny) began as a group of experienced table top roleplayers in 1989, who formed a group called "Out of this World".
Much of our ideas came from within our group and for nearly five years we had no outside influence upon the hobby. Since 1994 players have become involved with a wider range of national events including Lorien Trust, Maelstrom, Curious Pastimes, treasure trap and others and have brought some of their ideas to us.
Many members moved on to pastures new and around 2001 Carpe Fatum was formed (almost exclusively by Chris Inkley - but with regular player discussion) to bring some stability to the local hobby.
Our rule system has been modified several times and is in a state of constant flux being amended as new situations arise. Players new to Carpe Fatum, but having previous LRP experience may find our rules complicated and unwieldy.
They are designed for small group (less than 100 players) use and are designed to help characterisation not hinder it.
New players need not be afraid - little of the rules are needed to play and many of our players are long time hobbyists and will help you in the understanding of them. In fact most of our events can be played with hardly a single reference to the rules - so much so in fact that I recommend new players to design a character background and play it at a Tavern night before even trying to mould it to the rules.
