Winter Break
« on: November 13, 2008, 10:15:55 AM »
Last nights roleplay was a bit thin on the ground and as it is getting colder and people are losing enthusiasm for coming out into the cold - we will knock the tavern nights on the head until further notice.
I plan to resume them in the spring perhaps early March.
I still intend to keep some stuff running - we talked about a fortnightly tabletop session (possibly systemless and without rules?) or more warhammer or board games.
I've also thought about the possibility of a linear adventure or three - pushing on with House of Erasmus - maybe even doing some one off murder parties or the like.
Please give me any suggestions.

Chris

House of erasmus is a great one for winter - can be as civilised or not as you like.  Personally (though I don't get to much anyway) I would suggest keeping something going even if its only an occasional social thing.  Now we dont have a weekly game night like the old days of the vine we dont want to lose regular contact as people can get out of the habit and drift off

Table top sounds interesting and warmer, which is a winner with my little chest playing up.
Ooo look a new PBM!

Erasmus stuff sounds good to me, it would be really nice to get into that a little more by having more regular events for a while. I don't know about anyone else, but I struggle to remember the plot sometimes after such big gaps. Plus, not having to think about wolf charactrs/issues will give us time to think about Erasmus plots more.

I agree with Madarcher starting a few more Erasmus would be great fun, but like wise I also find it hard to remember the plot for Erasmus after such big breaks and thinking about wolf nights adds to that. But if they got up and running again I enjoy them and would continue to go. Also the table top that you were talking about last night sounded great fun. I have never done table top before but would love to start! The board games last night was fun aswell! Linear events sound good! -_-

I agree with Darklord, best to keep some routine going, especially for those of us with family and other commitments to work around- my alternate Weds are jealously guarded! Table top would be good and if people are willing to travel as far as North Somercotes, we could hold a tabletop event here (I might even provide cake!)
Love to crack on with Erasmus. Also talked about continuing some Wolf Night Plot on the website.
Maybe occasional pub meets to document plot(s) so far, which would need a range of people as we recall different aspects (could some recording also be done via the website?)- and maybe start to build a bank of plot ideas.
(Mind you,I still haven't finished backgrounds to Talia and 'Iona' type place or finished skaven weapons. I've got some generic costume patterns I want to make up...and some lights for the Inn....and some daubing work needs doing on the Inn...what's the bet that come the spring they'll still be waiting to be done?)
But I will try to be there for any events, murder parties, linears...otherwise it would be a long time without seeing you guys... and it would be lovely to see you again Asamoth - will save you a place by the fire.

Arranging a roleplayers bash could be done by anyone - I feel that meeting up at a pub would be a better idea than the wolf - people start to woos it when the weather turns bad - and Tom is probably more likely to appear if it aint cold and damp.
Also no-one needs to feel they then have to arrange it with me (note how I carefully remove another of people's excuses for laziness).

Come on guys - I'm willing to support stuff at the moment but not:

a) take the initiative
b) plan an event
c) write the event
d) contact everyone
e) run the event

There are those of you out there who feel they haven't the experience to run something or that people will laugh at them or .....

whatever you think - you are better having a go at running something than not bothering at all.

This week, how about pub meet - note plots so far (from characters' perspectives?) before the weeks pass and much of momentum/memory is lost. Nothing too arduous, but quick notes (anyone got a laptop and able to type fast? Hmmm, someone give Scott a nudge? or Dean?) I can do notes, but have to do too much ruddy paperwork already so would get cross.
I'm willing to do a 50 mile round journey if there are other people to talk to at the other end. This is a chance for us to pool ideas and maybe plan a couple of events/meets to keep things ticking over?
The least I can offer is recording stuff, but running anything -I would like help with. As Chris says this is a chance to have a go, even if it turns out to be toss - but hopefully fun toss!
A pint in a pub with constructive talk about role-play will tempt me away from the sofa and another episode of 'Afterlife' DVD (now there are some neat plot ideas!)
so...anyone interested for this Weds? ...7pm Red Lion? ...aw, go on.. you know you want to...(shades of Father Ted)

Hopefully should be able to come this wednesday for a pub meet. So 7:00 at the red lion? I just need to know in advance because it is quite far from me and need to arrange lift etc. ( Dam I wish I could drive!)

Obviously I wont be there this wednesday but I would be happy to meet up nearer Christmas for a drink/meal/pub crawl type thing.  I will let people (via this website) know when I am around and what my plans are and you are free to join me - assuming you are somehow coneccted to Carpe fatum and not just some random nutter - random nutters may only come if they are interesting.

Anyone else able to join us tomorrow (Weds)?
If not, it will only be Ryan and me - and we both live miles away!

The silence from others is deafening!

Even if you can only spare half an hour, it would be good to discuss stuff - What can we do without Chris? (and give him a break). Some of us haven't been role-playing with the same group for years and would like to do more. What about one off events? Linears etc? You're always talking about them, but they are from the 'old days' - lets have some fun, but we need a few people to help organise it.
I want to laugh, cry, hit things, be puzzled and feel intense emotions I may not feel in real life, but can in role-play...experience magic, travel strange fantasy lands...be inside a story!...have FUN

There again I can take an easy road, stay at home and watch a DVD... but it's not the same.

Speaking as kind of an outsider these days I see a hell of a difference from the old days.   Some aspects are better now but some are much worse.  One of those things is player comittment.  I'm not going to single anyone out but back in "the old days" when the main activity was adventures, most often one offs or very short campaigns we had incredible amounts of people willing to run stuff.  Chris, Bill, Tom, Me, Jane all did it, not because it was our turn or it was somhow a duty but because we had ideas and wanted to use them.  Looking at the majority of the group now it seems like there has been a firm attitude of "Chris must run everything"  Thats really weak, Chris didn't invent larp, he dosent own the patent and even if he did I think its safe to say he would still be happy to see other stuff going on locally.  If new players or some of the old ones want to run stuff they will find people willing to help and support them.  Someone have a go please.  Even if I can't actually get to the event I am still willing to help with plot etc if people want to contact me and if its an event I can get to then so much the better.  I dont offer this lightly, I am very busy, I don't have a lot of spare time, for me to be willing to sacrifice any of it supporting a club whos events I can maybe get to four or so times a year at best has to be worth something. Come on guys.  Otherwise  just let the hobbey die in skeg, its yours afterall.
