Desert Island Piss Up

You all have heard of that old radio show Desert Island Discs. Famous people were asked which five records they would take with them if they were to be marrooned on a desert island and why.

Desert Island Piss Up - is a similar idea where by you pick five people (from any point in time and space) or even characters from books and go for a wild night on the piss with.

Who would you choose and why?

nanny ogg from discworld as that is who i aspire to and she looks a laff and i want to no the lyrics to that hedgehog song.

oliver reed. the man was buried in his local, respect.

jesus as it would be a cheap night out as he can turn water into wine and he can amaze us all with his pub tricks.

peter kay so we can give him that wonderful cocktail that is rolla cola in weatherspoons and snigger behind his back.

eddie izzaed cos u also have to have the bloke who talks random bollocks in the corner who u ignore but when u have a few everything he says seems to make sense.

I hate to come over the old fantasy fight club veteran here - but surely it depends entirely on where or when the sais event is taking place.

If it is to be held in Strikes for example then you would need people who you could actually hear talking - in such an environment a Swiss Yodeller, Brian Blessed or any person aspiring to rank at the gathering may be good choices.

If you were holding it in the Shades - those who could physically cope with the ambience - such as John the Baptist, Mother Theresa or Paul Kelly might be good choices. - or William Wallace who may just decide to "burn it !"

In the Links you would need those who could handle JAne Mitchell in all her glory - so Oliver Reed, Richard Burton, or Vlad the Impaler (for differing reasons) may be wise.

To not feel out of place in the Vine you would need pompous arrogant fools like General Haig, Henry VIII or MArcus Hacker.

Perhaps we ought to add a clause to this that you have to specify the venue and then you can cross reference this in with why you would pick the people you would.

Well there are many venues that could appeal, but for this particular one I am thinking the mansion on the shore of lake Geneva that Lord Byron hired.

The man himself would have to be there along with his guests the night that Mary Shelley came up with Frankenstein.  I wanted Vlad too but if Chris has got him to Strikes then he probably wouldn't trust any of us again.

So how about Aleister Crowley just to see if he really did have anything to say after all, then maybe Marylin Manson so the two of them could fight over who really was the great beast.  Lord Greystoke - so we can call him monkey boy and throw bananas at him when we get board.  Final guest I reckon we should go for anybody sensible enough to put us in the recovery position when we pass out and call the ambulance when knives, chairs and bottles come into play.

What's really worrying me is on the last literacy training day we actually did a version of this with the staff - Fantasy training day
in which we picked five people we would have actually wished to have had with us on the training day.

It was ace - we had all sorts including Doctor Who - he would have played with time and ended the session early.

Steve Mcqueen - so we could all make a Great Escape

various literary geniuses who would abuse the literacy advisor and make them feel inadequate.

All in all it was rather good.

Actually on the real desert island discs programme I believe you are also allowed to select one book to take with you.  Does anyone ever choose "How to escape from a desert island"?
